I'm finally getting around to updating the blog...it's only been about a month since our trip, not bad. Things are pretty crazy/hectic around here since we sold our house, well technically we are only in escrow, but hopefully it's sold. We received an update, the day we left for Nauvoo that we had an offer on our house (that's 3 days from the date we went "live"). So we did some negotiating etc., while exploring the historic Nauvoo.
Day One: First Stop-Blacksmith & Ferrier and Wainwright (wagon maker).
Learning about how covered wagons were made and loaded. I would enlighten you all on some interesting facts, but I can't remember any at this point. Maybe someone can comment a bit of info. they learned and remember :). |
Sidenote: In case your wondering about the name tag, the demonstrators were all servings missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (visit mormon.org or lds.org for more information...or message me). |
Thank goodness for all the helpful cousins. :) |
Everyone received a "Prairie Diamond", aka a nail made into a ring. |
Examining her ring, before dropping it (unnoticed by her parents, who then panicked that she may have eaten it-she didn't. We found it.) |
Demonstrating how to make a horseshoe. Everyone also received a small, handmade horseshoe! |
Ian, the soon-to-be-birthday boy, received THE horseshoe made in front of us. A very special moment. He never failed to remind any of the teachers/demonstrators that his birthday was within a few days...for the remainder of the trip. Can't say I blame him. |
Next stop...
Here we learned about the long process that was involved in making a single brick. Every family also received a brick! |
On to Rope Making:
Brent is demonstrating how to twist the several strands together to form a strong rope. We also all received a rope. |
"I'm bored, mom." |
They are prepared for such an occasion-they had toys available for the little ones! :) |
She's excited about the dolls, in case that wasn't obvious. |
"What is this & why did you make me sit on it" |
...after learning it was supposed to be a lamb. |
"Bye for now!" |
