Nordstrom Anniversary Sale & Dups!

I can't believe it's already here!! THE annual Nordstrom sale!! Christmas in July! 😂

Are you one of the many who get excited for the sale or do you not really care?  I love a good sale, for sure! If there is anything I've had my eye on, I like to make sure I check out the sale to see if it made the cut!  As I type this, I'm off and on Amazon and my Target app because it's Amazon Prime Day! ....ahhh how that commercialism gets me!!😂

It does seem weird to start buying boots, booties, cardigans and jackets in July--especially in Texas!  Buuut I try to keep in mind that if it's something I will need in the winter and it's cheaper to buy it now, it's worth it!! Plus, all the sales in July can help get some gift buying done (super early!!) & then it doesn't hurt so much come November and December, right? #justificationprocess

So, for those of you not consuming your days scrolling the sale items and cross referencing them across multiple sites, this post is for you!! I have some of my favorites, and some of the most popular Nordstrom sale items AND some cheaper, dup versions to hopefully help out those budgets.  I get it, we all on a budget! Some items we can splurge and other times we need to be practical. #ughadulting

1.  Zella Leggings vs CRZ (on Amazon): Lots of women love these! Personally, I only have one pair and it seems to stretch out around the waist, so I don't love them.  Maybe I needed another size?  I'm not sure because I haven't tried any other styles.  Also, Nordstrom Rack always has a lot of these leggings in stock.  I included them here because they always seem to be very popular! There are other styles and colors available.
CRZ: I haven't tried this brand yet, but have had several people recommend them and compare them to their LuLu Lemon--and even suggest they are BETTER!! & for that price tag, that's worth trying!  They're in my cart!

2.  BP Cardigan ($31.90) Vs Target ($24.99):  with the NSale, the price point isn't much different and I have always liked the BP brand.  Of course, if you also have a Target RedCard, you will save an additional 5%.

3.  Tory Burch Crossbody vs Amazon Crossbody bags:  This is really a splurge item.  If you have the option to splurge and/or are a designer bag kinda gal this is a GREAT price for a Tory Burch crossbody!  It's just the right size and even has some dividers to organize your items! #winning
Obviously, if you don't care or can't justify that purchase, there are plenty of similar options out there to get that chic look and functionality! Amazon for the win!

3.  Vince Camuto booties vs Target: def time to buy is now as you can save $50!!  Def go check out the sale on the booties if you are in the market bc so many cute booties!!
Tip: if you're not in the market to spend $50+ on shoes, the Nordstrom sale is often the beginning of the fall seasonal trends.  Just wait--after the sale, other retailers (Target, for instance) will start to roll out their new fall lines with very similar items for a fraction of the cost!

4.  Spanx Faux Leather Leggings vs Target:  Spanx leggings are like a staple in the closet, I think.  They have a cult following!  And these leggings, normally, are DANG expensive! Heck- even on sale $65 is kind of a splurge.  I have this particular pair and here are my thoughts... do they hold you in: yes! I feel like I need to wear them more this fall/winter, dress them down more, but I have yet to notice any "give" or "relaxing" in the fabric.  They are high-waisted so it keeps it all in nice and snug.  If you've never tried a pair on, order your normal size and a size up so you can see which feels best.
If you're just going for the look, I haven't tried this particular style from Target,  but the look is similar and for the price of $16.99, worth a shot!!
Sidenote: Assets by Spanx leggings, available at Target, are GOOD! Fraction of the cost, and I really like them. I wear mine A LOT.

5.  Steve Madden vs. Target ($22.99):  I really wanted to like these. I did.  They are super cute and I guarantee they will be a trendy flat this fall! I just didn't love how they looked on my foot? Maybe it's just because I'm not used to seeing my, wider foot 😳😂in this pointy style? I don't know, I do really like them...so I may give them another chance, sometimes things grow on me!  I sized down for this pair.
That being said , because I didn't LOVE LOVE them, I decided I'll wait it out for a dupe.  I couldn't find anything similar in the colors/studs, but Target has a similar loafer flat,  in the leopard, if you just can't wait!

6.  Fleece pullovers!! Nordstrom vs Amazon:  These are a great piece to have in your fall (winter if you're in Texas!).  You can dress them up, or over leggings...and no one needs to know if you're wearing a bra! 😂 That's the beauty of winter.  Here's a dupe I found on Amazon with good reviews, but honestly, you can find these all over the place!  Target and Walmart and all sorts of other retailers will have these available.

7.  Nsale Bootie vs. Target ($37.99):  Again, if you love it and can splurge, go for it! If not, don't worry, you need not compromise your fashionista vibes! Target will have a wonderful fall line up of booties for you! I'm sure of it!!
**Update: most sizes for the Target dupe are sold out.  So stay tuned--I'll keep watching out!

8.  Ugg Slippers vs Target ($24.99) and J. Crew: Imma be real with you, I want those Ugg slippers. I want them in pink.  I want them real bad.  Honestly, I didn't see them at Nordstrom when I was there!! 😞 Also, I have 2 pairs of Ugg slippers....that's not really relevant though, right? 😂 I am a slipper person though.  I mean every single day, all day, Mr. Roger's style: come home put on my slippers.  #slipperlife I used to get a new pair every year and I would murder them! By the end of the season they had holes on the bottom and, ya'll, truth bomb, they were stinky.  There, I said it!  My Uggs on the other hand have made it a few seasons-no holes, NO SMELL!  This is really why Brent buys them for me.
If you're not down to spend more than $50 on slippers, I get it.  There are some good alternatives- just expect to toss and replace them more frequently.
Tip: Check out Nordstrom Rack (these shown are currently the cheapest ones I saw even vs the Rack!).  As the season approaches they will also have some sales on Ugg and you might get lucky?

Here are some other shoe options I liked...but didn't find a good dup for.   Have no fear though, there will be LOTS of knee high and OTK boot options if you have patience!

I want these basic black, or grey? I just don't need them...but I included them because I think they're a great shoe to workout in or to wear on a casual basis with leggings etc.  ...as I describe the outfit possibilities, I am feeling more strongly that I need these. 😂

We also took advantage of the sale for our kiddos and stocked them up on jackets--Northface was on sale.  There are lots of options: fleece, pull-over, zip-ups, water repellant etc.   Here are just a couple:

They also had some good shoe sales on kid shoes (Vans, Converse, Hunter boots) but it was a limited selection of style/color.  Also, check out the Nordstrom Rack for sales on name brand kid shoes!  We find most of our kid's shoes there and the price is more justified since they destroy them and/or grow out so quickly!

This is all I got for now!  I'll add to it if I come across any other ideas.  If there is anything specific you are looking for and/or see, let me know!!

Be Thankful

It's that time of year again!  Time to spend hours cooking/preparing, minutes eating (WAY too much food), all surrounded in the loud, wonderful chaos of family. The food, shopping and preparations can quickly and easily take over and  result in overlooking the real meaning of the holiday. Thanksgiving invites us all to reflect on our many blessings and remember to be grateful.  As you might expect, the things I am most grateful for are those that you can't buy.  This year we welcomed Brynlynn into our home and are SO GRATEFUL for her; that she is here, that she is healthy, that our family is forever.   I'm incredibly grateful for my knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  I'm grateful for the countless blessing He has bestowed upon me and my family.  I am grateful for Brent; for the man and husband that he is and more importantly the father that he is.  I'm so grateful for all of my immediate and extended family...I'm not under any false impression that it'

Mothers and Daughters

Just a warning, I am standing on my 'soapbox', so turn back now if you don't want to hear my rant of the day. I have strong opinions, so read at your own risk. :) I just watched this video, Mothers and Daughters , and had to share it. I watched a very disturbing episode of Oprah yesterday (the DVR recorded another episode for some reason). I won't go in to details, but despite all of the discussion I was very upset and surprised by the actions of the mother. She was basically the opposite of what a mother should reflect. She offered no love, support, encouragement and in this particular situation protection for any of her children. I particularly like how Elder Ballard mentions what expectations we as women are presented with today. Pointing out how, women are often made to look silly, and objectified. Our roles, that we are divinely given, are continually undermined . Women seek guidance on how we should look, what we should wear etc. from people that really do

What's Fabric?

David's Bridal Highly Educated & Well Informed Employee: Thank you for calling DB. How can I help you? Me: Hi, yes I'm trying to order several yards of fabric. DBHE&WIE: I'm sorry, what? I don't understand you? Me: I'm trying to order some fabric. DBHE&WIF: order what? Me: Fabric. F-A-B-R-I-C (yes, I spelled it out for her just mistakenly thinking this would in some way make the communicating proces easier). DBHE&WIE: I don't know what that is. Me: (stunned, but I'm used to working with stupid people on the phone...here's my attempt to 'dumb it down') the stuff the clothes are made of--cotton, taffeta..? DBHE&WIE: Oh! Oh, I don't know...let me transfer you to alterations. Long story short: alterations first language was NOT English. She transferred me back... Hung up--called another location. They're going to call me back tomorrow to let me know. ps Tanlee-you owe me.
