Homemade Ice Cream!

This past Father's Day, at my mom's house, we attempted to make homemade ice cream. None of us had ever made it before...no one except Brent. He got the recipe from his mom, but little instruction on the cooking process. Long story short, we had BlueBell.

I found this recipe at KevinandAmanda and it's SUPER easy! ...and NO MACHINE NECESSARY!! Yay! Also, it's pretty yummy (to me). My world renowned food critic, Brent, was not overly impressed. He admitted it was good, but was too heavy/creamy for his taste. Well, I like creamy ice cream. Sure it's not exactly like the other kind, but a good, easy alternative. (Just between us, I think it's partially the nostalgia of homemade ice cream...if I made it at Christmas and told him it was his mom's recipe he might have another review. Maybe. Maybe not.) Try it!!

Here's what you need:
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 can sweetened condensed milk (I used Eagle Brand)
Any toppings, mix-ins you want! ....seriously, it's that easy! I added butterfinger, Brent's favorite.

1. Whip the heavy cream until you have stiff peeks.
2. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, add all mix-ins and toppings to your sweetened condensed milk.
3. Fold in the whipped cream.
4. Freeze (I stored mine in a ziploc container-like the one from Amanda's website).

Enjoy!

Mothers and Daughters

Just a warning, I am standing on my 'soapbox', so turn back now if you don't want to hear my rant of the day. I have strong opinions, so read at your own risk. :) I just watched this video, Mothers and Daughters , and had to share it. I watched a very disturbing episode of Oprah yesterday (the DVR recorded another episode for some reason). I won't go in to details, but despite all of the discussion I was very upset and surprised by the actions of the mother. She was basically the opposite of what a mother should reflect. She offered no love, support, encouragement and in this particular situation protection for any of her children. I particularly like how Elder Ballard mentions what expectations we as women are presented with today. Pointing out how, women are often made to look silly, and objectified. Our roles, that we are divinely given, are continually undermined . Women seek guidance on how we should look, what we should wear etc. from people that really do...

What's Fabric?

David's Bridal Highly Educated & Well Informed Employee: Thank you for calling DB. How can I help you? Me: Hi, yes I'm trying to order several yards of fabric. DBHE&WIE: I'm sorry, what? I don't understand you? Me: I'm trying to order some fabric. DBHE&WIF: order what? Me: Fabric. F-A-B-R-I-C (yes, I spelled it out for her just mistakenly thinking this would in some way make the communicating proces easier). DBHE&WIE: I don't know what that is. Me: (stunned, but I'm used to working with stupid people on the phone...here's my attempt to 'dumb it down') the stuff the clothes are made of--cotton, taffeta..? DBHE&WIE: Oh! Oh, I don't know...let me transfer you to alterations. Long story short: alterations first language was NOT English. She transferred me back... Hung up--called another location. They're going to call me back tomorrow to let me know. ps Tanlee-you owe me.

Food Strategies to Help You Stay on Track!

What is up, ya'll?! Yes, I'm from Texas, I say y'all...a lot. #noshame Today, I wanted to take a little detour from the cleaning, organizing, life stuff to chat a little more about fitness and nutrition.   As some of you may, or may not, know I am an amateur body builder.  I have competed in the bikini division for the past 3 years. I would not consider myself an athlete, well, I never did any way until recently!  They label you "athlete" at the competitions and I'm not going to lie, I loved it!  Though, on several occasions I would forget they were referring to me, too!😝 I have typically been active from high school on through college and as an adult, but obviously, this competing took my fitness and nutrition to a whole new level.  I am not a certified trainer or nutritionist, but I have learned a lot through this journey! Meal/Snack Prepping Tired of hearing about meal prepping yet?  It's gonna be a frequent response, from me, on how to su...
