Let's Celebrate!

See?! I am trying to update the blog more often! (High five!) My intent for this entry was to document Daxton's 1st birthday party when I realized that I have yet to post anything from Brynlynn's 3rd.  Thus, I'm going to do a little bit of backtracking to even things up a bit, but this may be the only time this happens.  I'm going to try to move forward and just keep things updated as we go. We shall see.  Hopefully, eventually, each entry won't have to begin with an apology/explanation and a new found resolve to do better...hopefully.

I love parties. I do. I also hate them, but I mostly love them.  I usually only hate them because my own type A personality and drive for complete perfection can be stressful-yet productive! Mostly, I love them. I have decided, however, that I need to cut back a little bit and stop throwing as many parties as I have in the past because they do require a lot of my time, energy...money...and there are more important things for me to focus on.

That being said, Brent (who doesn't really share my enthusiasm for a good shin-dig) thinks we should limit the "over-the-top" birthday parties to the first one, and I'm ok with that.  I still think the birthday should be something special for that individual, but that doesn't mean we have to have a grandiose party every time.  I get it.  I was soooo on board with this idea of no party for the 3rd birthday until, until she wanted a PRINCESS PARTY! Oh the possibilities! The fun! The decor, the dress-up time...so, next year, no big party. Promise.

Brent made the cake!

Seth was "hired" to make balloon swords for the boys, but ended up working mostly for the princesses...you know how those princesses are ;).

The dress-up room...both princesses and princes were allowed.  The girls could have their nails painted,  freshen their makeup, accessorize their dresses with jewelry, sceptors etc.

Brynlynn, seemed to have a good time.  She also gets a little overwhelmed, I think, once all the guests arrive (so far this has happened this year and last).  Hopefully, overall it was a good experience for her.

...I've realized we are TERRIBLE at taking pictures!  There aren't any of the set-up, rooms etc...sorry, hopefully you can feel how magical it was based on the material presented. :(

Such a fun party! So glad we could come!
I'm bad at taking pictures at parties, too. Especially the everyone-look-here-and-smile kind. You know, the kind that you really wanted all along.
But the pictures you did get are fabulous. Really, such a cute little girl!

Mothers and Daughters

Just a warning, I am standing on my 'soapbox', so turn back now if you don't want to hear my rant of the day. I have strong opinions, so read at your own risk. :) I just watched this video, Mothers and Daughters , and had to share it. I watched a very disturbing episode of Oprah yesterday (the DVR recorded another episode for some reason). I won't go in to details, but despite all of the discussion I was very upset and surprised by the actions of the mother. She was basically the opposite of what a mother should reflect. She offered no love, support, encouragement and in this particular situation protection for any of her children. I particularly like how Elder Ballard mentions what expectations we as women are presented with today. Pointing out how, women are often made to look silly, and objectified. Our roles, that we are divinely given, are continually undermined . Women seek guidance on how we should look, what we should wear etc. from people that really do...

What's Fabric?

David's Bridal Highly Educated & Well Informed Employee: Thank you for calling DB. How can I help you? Me: Hi, yes I'm trying to order several yards of fabric. DBHE&WIE: I'm sorry, what? I don't understand you? Me: I'm trying to order some fabric. DBHE&WIF: order what? Me: Fabric. F-A-B-R-I-C (yes, I spelled it out for her just mistakenly thinking this would in some way make the communicating proces easier). DBHE&WIE: I don't know what that is. Me: (stunned, but I'm used to working with stupid people on the phone...here's my attempt to 'dumb it down') the stuff the clothes are made of--cotton, taffeta..? DBHE&WIE: Oh! Oh, I don't know...let me transfer you to alterations. Long story short: alterations first language was NOT English. She transferred me back... Hung up--called another location. They're going to call me back tomorrow to let me know. ps Tanlee-you owe me.

9 Months and Counting...

Where have the past 9 months gone??  I keep looking through her pictures/videos from the day she was born and the next weeks that followed...I can't believe how big she's getting.   She is so fun and full of personality.  She has always been an "easy" baby: she's slept through the night since about 3 months, usually follows a (rough) nap schedule , eats all the fruits and veggies that we send her way, she's healthy and generally a happy baby.  Oh, and she's about a 100 on the cuteness scale from 1-10.  She's not afraid to speak her mind; she's VERY vocal.  She is very curious and adventurous; she's crawling, and climbing and standing (unassisted-for a few seconds at least)...this girl doesn't miss a thing!  Every time we have a check-up the Dr. just laughs at how active and curious and vocal she is and says something to the effect of, "she's going to be  fun ."  ...bringing a whole new meaning to the word fun... I can't ...
