Who's Training Who?

Brynlynn has been using the word "potty" a lot lately, I mean A LOT.  She knows how to say the word and sign it.  She follows me to the bathroom, runs to the bathroom if someone else is using it and notifies everyone that it is a "potty" and/or someone is going "potty."   I haven't been taking it too seriously, because I wasn't sure she if knew the verb action associated with potty or just the noun.    


But lately (the past month or two) she has been saying potty and it's more like an announcement.  On one of the first instances, she said "potty" then ran to my bathroom and returned with a diaper and the wipes.  Turns out, she needed a diaper change.  We were stunned.  Then, several other times, it was more of an announcement...she'd say "potty" and then well...potty.  This past weekend, she announced "potty" with no reason other than...so I decided to go with it so we ran to the (mini) toilet (equipped with a smiley face and singing toilet bowl) AND


SHE DID IT!!

We still haven't officially started with the "potty bootcamp"; I was initially intending to wait until about 18 months (she's 16 months now).  This is not a consistent thing, but rather occasional.  I'm hoping once we do start it'll catch on quickly...I just don't want to rush into things too soon.

Mothers and Daughters

Just a warning, I am standing on my 'soapbox', so turn back now if you don't want to hear my rant of the day. I have strong opinions, so read at your own risk. :) I just watched this video, Mothers and Daughters , and had to share it. I watched a very disturbing episode of Oprah yesterday (the DVR recorded another episode for some reason). I won't go in to details, but despite all of the discussion I was very upset and surprised by the actions of the mother. She was basically the opposite of what a mother should reflect. She offered no love, support, encouragement and in this particular situation protection for any of her children. I particularly like how Elder Ballard mentions what expectations we as women are presented with today. Pointing out how, women are often made to look silly, and objectified. Our roles, that we are divinely given, are continually undermined . Women seek guidance on how we should look, what we should wear etc. from people that really do...

What's Fabric?

F-A-B-R-I-C (yes, I spelled it out for her just mistakenly thinking this would in some way make the communicating proces easier). DBHE&WIE: I don't know what that is. Me: (stunned, but I'm used to working with stupid people on the phone...here's my attempt to 'dumb it down') the stuff the clothes are made of--cotton, taffeta..? DBHE&WIE: Oh! Oh, I don't know...let me transfer you to alterations. Long story short: alterations first language was NOT English. She transferred me back... Hung up--called another location. ...& Then There Were Three

She's arrived! Brynlynn Olivia Shannon (finally) made her entrance on Feb. 15 at 10:14 am! Here's her story... Her initial due date was 2/13 (though her size indicated 2/06). Thinking I could use my mother as a good reference point for my pregnancy, I suspected she too would come early (I was about 4-5 weeks early and my sister 2-3 weeks). Wrong. Thus, when my 40 week check-up rolled around, still no baby and my cervix was no more prepared to deliver a baby than it was at 6 weeks, the Dr. wanted to discuss inducing labor. Even though I was eager to meet her and have my body to myself again, I was apprehensive about this process...you hear the horror stories of the women that elect to induce have a 35 hour labor that ends with a c-section despite their earlier efforts. We, however, prayed about the process, and knew that my body would likely need a little 'boost' since (as previously mentioned) my cervix didn't get the memo about my due date.
