A Year to Remember.

My baby is a year old. I am the mother to a one-year old. Wow. This post took me longer than I had hoped...I had intended to post something on the actual birthday (2/15-a day she shares with her cousin, Amy, and her great-grandfather, Alvin Jung); it didn't happen- not even close...sigh.

What a crazy, life changing, wonderful year!  Looking through all the pictures and movies brought me to tears- several times.  Both happy and sad tears.  It's been so much fun, yet it's sad to see them go; to see my little baby a toddler.

Brynlynn is so much fun!  She's usually laughing (at what I don't always know). Sometimes, as she's playing, she just laughs and "talks."  I love it!  She's always been a happy baby.  I know I've said this before but, (moms/dads will understand why) she has slept through the night since about 3 months AND wakes up around 8:30 every morning (except for today, she woke up at 9). I know-it's fabulous!  She LOVES to give kisses...to everyone.  I don't mind. I'll take all the wet, slobbery kisses she wants to give me.  She's not a picky eater.  So far she has only turned down one thing: plain oatmeal (can't say I blame her). She LOVES bananas and I mean loves...she has at least one a day. She loves Winston; they have some good times together-mostly sharing one another's food. She loves books! We read and reread books all day. She loves Dora (she actually almost says her name sometimes-we have a lot of Dora in this house). She loves to dance; she mostly just moves her hips, but she has also began to master the "cabbage patch" move. She plays pat-a-cake (loves to clap).  She knows how to sign: baby, more, please and milk.  She loves pictures and can recognize most of the people on our fridge-if you want to be recognized, send us a card. :)

It's fun, and challenging, to see her personality manifesting itself.  She is very determined and not easily deterred.  I can see there is little struggle with patience (hopefully, because she's only a year old, but we're working on it.  I need to be a better example, for sure).  When she wants something-she wants it!  She gets very frustrated if she is physically unable to do something, but will try relentlessly.  If there is a willing and able body (usually a grandparent, aunt or uncle eager for love/attention) she will be so kind as to let you hold her and then she will direct you where to go and what to give her.  Oh, how I love her!

I could go on and on.  I thought it would be fun to have a little video of the year to review. Enjoy.
(Warning: video will drastically increase your desire to see Brynlynn and possibly your desire to have a baby.)

Mothers and Daughters

Just a warning, I am standing on my 'soapbox', so turn back now if you don't want to hear my rant of the day. I have strong opinions, so read at your own risk. :) I just watched this video, Mothers and Daughters , and had to share it. I watched a very disturbing episode of Oprah yesterday (the DVR recorded another episode for some reason). I won't go in to details, but despite all of the discussion I was very upset and surprised by the actions of the mother. She was basically the opposite of what a mother should reflect. She offered no love, support, encouragement and in this particular situation protection for any of her children. I particularly like how Elder Ballard mentions what expectations we as women are presented with today. Pointing out how, women are often made to look silly, and objectified. Our roles, that we are divinely given, are continually undermined . Women seek guidance on how we should look, what we should wear etc. from people that really do...

What's Fabric?

David's Bridal Highly Educated & Well Informed Employee: Thank you for calling DB. How can I help you? Me: Hi, yes I'm trying to order several yards of fabric. DBHE&WIE: I'm sorry, what? I don't understand you? Me: I'm trying to order some fabric. DBHE&WIF: order what? Me: Fabric. F-A-B-R-I-C (yes, I spelled it out for her just mistakenly thinking this would in some way make the communicating proces easier). DBHE&WIE: I don't know what that is. Me: (stunned, but I'm used to working with stupid people on the phone...here's my attempt to 'dumb it down') the stuff the clothes are made of--cotton, taffeta..? DBHE&WIE: Oh! Oh, I don't know...let me transfer you to alterations. Long story short: alterations first language was NOT English. She transferred me back... Hung up--called another location. They're going to call me back tomorrow to let me know. ps Tanlee-you owe me.

9 Months and Counting...

Where have the past 9 months gone??  I keep looking through her pictures/videos from the day she was born and the next weeks that followed...I can't believe how big she's getting.   She is so fun and full of personality.  She has always been an "easy" baby: she's slept through the night since about 3 months, usually follows a (rough) nap schedule , eats all the fruits and veggies that we send her way, she's healthy and generally a happy baby.  Oh, and she's about a 100 on the cuteness scale from 1-10.  She's not afraid to speak her mind; she's VERY vocal.  She is very curious and adventurous; she's crawling, and climbing and standing (unassisted-for a few seconds at least)...this girl doesn't miss a thing!  Every time we have a check-up the Dr. just laughs at how active and curious and vocal she is and says something to the effect of, "she's going to be  fun ."  ...bringing a whole new meaning to the word fun... I can't ...
