Put it in Writing

I'm having a Mr. Mom moment (shame on you if you don't know that movie; classic-watch it). My maternity leave is coming to an end soon, so it's time to 'kick it into gear!' I've had my time of laziness, but it can't go on forever. Furthermore, I know I'll be unhappy with low productivity levels. I recognize that my to-do list can't be as extensive as it once was because, I am not entirely responsible for my time these days. I do, however, recognize that I need to manage my time more wisely. Thus, I have decided, it starts tomorrow (though not technically the end of my maternity leave, my OCD requires me to start this at the beginning of the week...if I start mid-week I'm less likely to be successful due to my high levels of rationalization/justification--aka I'm good at BS-ing even with myself--and would talk myself into starting next week).

Goal #1: I MUST get back into shape. I've invested way too much money in my jean collection to not fit back into them. Plus, I'm not quite ready for 'mom jeans'...not sure I'll ever be. The fact that I'm a mom and am wearing them is my version of 'mom jeans.'

Goal#2: Relates to the latter, I intend to eat healthier and help Brent eat healthier also. I already went shopping, stocked up and have some menu plans. I'm going to try to plan out a menu (a tenative menu)...we'll see how that goes. Brent and I are happy with sandwiches and cereal or we eat out...it's time for a change.

Goal#3: Read. I've never been a big reader, more of a cliffnotes/sparknotes kind of reader or wait-until-it-comes-out-on-DVD reader.

Goal#4: Clean, organize and declutter the house. My plan is to take it room by room until I've reached a point at which I am content (subjective I know, but it is what it is!). This is an ongoing process, obviously one that doesn't end, but I have got to get started because this is ridiculous. My neighbor has 3 kids and a spotless house! She probably goes home and cleans up more just after leaving my house!

Goal#5: Hobbies/socializing etc. I also fully intend to devote some time to ME! Learning/trying new things which includes some of these 'mommy clubs.'

My hopes in publicizing this is, hopefully, make me more accountable...and thus, more successful. Here it goes!

Are you going back to work full time? Those are all really wonderful goals but I just want you know that you shouldn't feel bad if you aren't able to accomplish them all while working full time. Working full time with a baby is a lot harder than I thought it would be!!! A year later, I feel like I'm just now finally getting back on track. Best wishes in your new adventure!

Mothers and Daughters

Just a warning, I am standing on my 'soapbox', so turn back now if you don't want to hear my rant of the day. I have strong opinions, so read at your own risk. :) I just watched this video, Mothers and Daughters , and had to share it. I watched a very disturbing episode of Oprah yesterday (the DVR recorded another episode for some reason). I won't go in to details, but despite all of the discussion I was very upset and surprised by the actions of the mother. She was basically the opposite of what a mother should reflect. She offered no love, support, encouragement and in this particular situation protection for any of her children. I particularly like how Elder Ballard mentions what expectations we as women are presented with today. Pointing out how, women are often made to look silly, and objectified. Our roles, that we are divinely given, are continually undermined . Women seek guidance on how we should look, what we should wear etc. from people that really do...

What's Fabric?

David's Bridal Highly Educated & Well Informed Employee: Thank you for calling DB. How can I help you? Me: Hi, yes I'm trying to order several yards of fabric. DBHE&WIE: I'm sorry, what? I don't understand you? Me: I'm trying to order some fabric. DBHE&WIF: order what? Me: Fabric. F-A-B-R-I-C (yes, I spelled it out for her just mistakenly thinking this would in some way make the communicating proces easier). DBHE&WIE: I don't know what that is. Me: (stunned, but I'm used to working with stupid people on the phone...here's my attempt to 'dumb it down') the stuff the clothes are made of--cotton, taffeta..? DBHE&WIE: Oh! Oh, I don't know...let me transfer you to alterations. Long story short: alterations first language was NOT English. She transferred me back... Hung up--called another location. They're going to call me back tomorrow to let me know. ps Tanlee-you owe me.

9 Months and Counting...

Where have the past 9 months gone??  I keep looking through her pictures/videos from the day she was born and the next weeks that followed...I can't believe how big she's getting.   She is so fun and full of personality.  She has always been an "easy" baby: she's slept through the night since about 3 months, usually follows a (rough) nap schedule , eats all the fruits and veggies that we send her way, she's healthy and generally a happy baby.  Oh, and she's about a 100 on the cuteness scale from 1-10.  She's not afraid to speak her mind; she's VERY vocal.  She is very curious and adventurous; she's crawling, and climbing and standing (unassisted-for a few seconds at least)...this girl doesn't miss a thing!  Every time we have a check-up the Dr. just laughs at how active and curious and vocal she is and says something to the effect of, "she's going to be  fun ."  ...bringing a whole new meaning to the word fun... I can't ...
