Adventures of Sir Winston Shannon

Not always the brightest crayon in the box, but we love him. He's no doubt a little fraction of a slice of what childhood will bring (especially if the newest Shannon is a boy). This is underneath our recliner (in the recline position). He managed to wedge himself between this and the inside of the couch. Upon realizing he was not as comfortable as he'd hoped, he proceeded to try and escape through that little hole. Brent went to the rescue and I did my best to not move at all and prevent his unfortunate decapitation. Another incident... (Disclaimer: Room is currently under renovation. Disregard the mess.) There used to be a mattress on this bed. We are turning the smaller room into a nursery and converting this full bed into a queen using the mattresses from the bed in the smaller room. Does that make sense? The mattress has been off the bed for a few weeks at this point, but I guess Winston forgot. My parents were visiting so we were all standing around the end of th...

Changes...

Even though it's been a looong time since I last posted, I'm sure by now you're all aware that we're having a baby! We've officially gone public as the announcement was made this past week on Facebook. It's been an interesting 16 weeks so far: from the exhaustion and nausea, to the crying at the stupidest commercials/shows and country songs, to having the smelling senses of a bloodhound...it's all starting to get better. Despite all this, I know I was very lucky compared to some other mothers I've talked with. Poor Brent might not agree though; he was forbidden to chew this particular gum around me (among other things) because, well, it just smelled absolutely horrible! Something I still don't think he understands. "Yes, honey, I realize it's 'minty freshness' and you're just trying to have good dental hygiene, but...SPIT IT OUT. Thanks." Luckily, I didn't suffer from many (if any) drastic changes in mood. (I...

What's Fabric?

David's Bridal Highly Educated & Well Informed Employee: Thank you for calling DB. How can I help you? Me: Hi, yes I'm trying to order several yards of fabric. DBHE&WIE: I'm sorry, what? I don't understand you? Me: I'm trying to order some fabric. DBHE&WIF: order what? Me: Fabric. F-A-B-R-I-C (yes, I spelled it out for her just mistakenly thinking this would in some way make the communicating proces easier). DBHE&WIE: I don't know what that is. Me: (stunned, but I'm used to working with stupid people on the phone...here's my attempt to 'dumb it down') the stuff the clothes are made of--cotton, taffeta..? DBHE&WIE: Oh! Oh, I don't know...let me transfer you to alterations. Long story short: alterations first language was NOT English. She transferred me back... Hung up--called another location. They're going to call me back tomorrow to let me know. ps Tanlee-you owe me.

A New Way to Say, "I Love You"

Like any Sunday, I fell asleep on the couch for a good 15-30 minutes (who's counting?). I woke up when Brent came back downstairs and sat next to me on the couch. He rested his head on my hip (I lay on my side)-no big deal-then a few minutes later said," did you pee?!" At first, still coming out of my coma, I thought 'no, I'm pretty sure I didn't', then I realized he was directing this towards Winston. Then I realized that my hip had a strange spot and was damp!! I must be a more sound sleeper than I thought, because I felt nothing and it was cool by the time we discovered it so.... I guess I should be flattered; (I looked it up on dog training) apparently, he loves me and is 'staking his claim.' Happy Valentine's Day--Love, Winston. (p.s. this is the second time this has happened-first time I was awake though)
